Red Cross Blood Drive

In '85 or '86 I sold plasma for $20 bucks with no ill effects. 2 or 3 years later I did it again, but looked as they pulled the needle out of my arm and about passed out. We had a blood drive here yesterday so I donated blood for the first time ever. The Red Cross rep said that out of 100 people, 40 can't give blood for one reason or another. Out of the 60 that can give blood, only 3 will. I thought that it was amazing that the nations' blood supply is provided by that small minority. Then I wondered how small of a minority the military makes up of our society. I wonder how many small minorities are providing for me and mine in any number of different ways? In Matt. 9.37, Jesus tells us that, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." I think this should encourage us to become a member of a small minority of servants in any number of fields or worthy causes and not to let the inactivity of anyone around us discourage us.

I past the 5 gallon mark a few months ago. I give every 8 weeks. About 10 years ago I had given a few times but not regularly. Then my brother-in-law had surgury to remove a brain cancer. It was a pretty bloody surgery. He lost 24 units of blood and ended up using 26. After that I resolved to replace what he had used. That was about 30 donations ago. I've got quite a bit of scar tissue buit up on my arm since then. They poke me in the same place every time.

joel,
I am going to try and start giving regularly, seems like I remember Greg Walker used to coordinate blood drives and give blood. 5 gallons, let's see, I ain't the rainman, but if I give 4 times a year, that would be a half a gallon a year... it's gonna take me quite a while to get to 5 gallons.
