What makes us acutely...

aware of how much God has blessed our lives on some days, while on other days God seems very distant? We know Jesus Christ is the way and the truth and the life. (John 14.6)

Does something happen to us on any particular day that takes that fact out of focus? Do we all suffer from some sort of spiritual A.D.D.? If we do, we need the spiritual equivalent of Ritalin.

What activity or activities will help us to focus our minds and lives on Jesus Christ? Will it involve prayer? I believe it will. Will it involve reading the Bible? I believe it will. Will it involve worshipping God in a congregational setting? I believe it does. I also believe it involves initiating and maintaining serving relationships with other people.

In Hebrews 13.8 we are told Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. In Matt. 20.26 Jesus tells His disciples whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave. Then Jesus uses Himself as the example of servanthood in verse 28 when He says, "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

I believe if we want the stability and security Jesus offers us through Himself then we have to let Him transform us into the servants He would have us be. Part of Jesus' unchanging nature is servitude and that kind of servitude needs to be a part of me as well.
